Are there any English speaking Air Con installers willing to quote for one or possibly two units in a first floor apartment in Roquetas de Mar, Calle de Norte?

Hi John17

Hopefully this is helpful for you.

It's a while ago but I got 3 x aircon units installed by Leroy Merlin. Never had the slightest bother.

They had a brochure (in Spanish) of the various aircon units - including important stuff like choosing the right units for your spaces.

You should choose aircon that is (a) quiet and (b) adequately powerful for your spaces.

Keep in mind that an aircon unit draws down around 1.5kw at full power. Make sure you have enough power to boil the kettle, run the washing machine and have the aircon on at the same time. Else you could be fumbling for the main switch in the dark!  Many Spanish places have a max of as low as 4kw on the main switch.

Good luck

Thank you but my Spanish only extends to ordering food and drink. I really want someone who can come and discuss  my needs in English.

Hi John17

I regret I can't help you finding an English speaking aircon installer in RDM.

Before you get someone in to organise your aircon units, do the following basic checks:

Measure the room/s to get the volume.

Add 33% to the figure you get if you have a lot of heat in the room - sun shining, kitchen, lots of people etc.  If the room gets very cold in the winter the extra capacity will be welcome. (Ensure you get an inverter aircon which will heat your room - most of the good ones include this as standard)

If this is a quiet room such as a bedroom or you want to watch the telly without a continuous noise from the unit, check for the lowest possible sound levels. Generally the better known brands - Hitachi, Mitsubishi etc - are quieter, but unfortunately cost a bit extra.

Routine maintenance (such as cleaning the filters) is usually much easier with the better known brands. This is especially important if anyone is suffering from an allergy.

The only other consideration is that the external units must not be visible from the street (except when replacing an old one) and thought may be necessary to get around this restriction.

So, John17, venture forth to Leroy Merlin armed with your measurements and you won't be long educating yourself on prices and specifications of what is available. You'll be pleasantly surprised how quickly you'll learn what you need to know.

Take photos of units (and the spec sheets) that meet your requirements and look up the reviews from people who have already bought them.

Good luck

Alex (Phil’s son) has just installed two units for us. I am very pleased all round with the work and the price. Thank you again for recommending him
