Hello there have you booked accommodation also or do you already have a home there, I'm looking for flights for July to secure our accommodation but not sure where to stay, I need to be not too far from a estate agent in Mojacar

Hi Nicola, we have our own home in Roquetas de Mar.

Just had our flights on the 8th July Gatwick to Almeria cancelled. This is not the first time by a long shot. Why are airlines canceling flights when they are allowed to fly? This flight was fully booked. Is Almeria airport open?? If not maybe have a better chance flying into Malaga. Salud.

Hopefully not heading for lockdown again ... Spain’s Health ministry has warned of renewed partial or complete lockdowns if outbreaks like the one at Huesca continue :

I've heard of Almeria cancellation for easyJet through my expat football team. Ryanair are flying and I've not yet heard of cancellations being a problem.

The following is copied and pasted from the booking page of easyJet. It helps to understand why flights appear sold out so often at the moment

Flights listed as Sold Out

We list a flight as ‘Sold Out’ when it is full, or when no more seats are on sale because we are uncertain if it will operate. An increased number of flights are currently showing as Sold Out because, in light of Covid-19 and evolving travel restrictions, we do not have certainty that some flights will operate. If you have an existing booking on a flight which now shows as ‘Sold Out’, we will be in touch at least 21 days before your departure date to confirm your travel details.

Maybe empty on the way back or simply not enough staff currently to run the flight.  I think flights into more popular airports with a chance of having a full plane returning are more likely not to be cancelled.

Michael O'Leary of Ryanair would describe Almería as a "thin" route, that is one with low traffic volumes.

As you know there are almost no flights to Almería from UK or Ireland during the winter. Whether or not you like it, you have to use alternative airports such as Malaga or Alicante during the off season.

The airlines sometimes cancel flights to thin routes as it is cheaper for them park the airplane than fly it half full. They'll then offer to transfer you to the next available flight which will now be almost full - or refund/credit your money.

We are booked with Ryanair for the 16 July and fingers crossed not yet been cancelled.
