Hi

I'm new to the forum. I love almeria region, especially Roquetas. We want to buy a property there but how can I sell it as an all year round resort when I can't get flights between November & May? Who do I contact in UK to ask the question?

Enjoy the Sun people

Hi Mike, I agree 100% it's an absolute pain to get to over the winter months..we tend to fly into malaga where there are flights as cheap as 30 pound and either catch an alsa bus which costs about 20 euros and takes 2 1/2 hours to almeria and then get the bus to roquetas or we get a taxi which if there's a few of you works out about 30 /40 euros each...it really doesn't make sense to me with all the properties being sold in the Almeria region why there aren't more flights available from UK airports. ..it is a lovely place though and prices are very reasonable in comparison to other places especially being so close to the coast, so it would be a shame if you let a little bit of travelling put you off...you never know maybe some day we'll get back the winter flights like monarch used to do. ..best wishes. .

Thanks Warren. I did that once but don't  fancy it on a regular basis. I suppose I'm fed up that we in the north have to settle for 2nd best.

Cheers

Hi Manchester Mike.

As you say, there are few direct flights from the UK (or Ireland) to Almería during the winter.

Suggest you look up flight comparison sites - there are several. My favourite is Skyscanner. Enter your dates and airports. It will offer you indirect flights (for example, change at Madrid or Barcelona) or alternative airports such as Malaga, Granada, Murcia and Alicante.

There are at least once daily flights to Malaga from Manchester all year round.

There is a good cheap bus service from Malaga to Almería. For an idea of costs look up travel website www.rome2rio.com.

At Malaga airport get  the metro (called Cercanias) four stops to Malaga central bus and rail station.  Get the bus direct to Almería. Then get local bus to Roquetas. Malaga bus and rail station is named after Maria Zambrano, a local poet. Make sure to look for the name, which is often shortened to MZ.

If you choose to rent a car it's a very easy drive which takes about 3 hours - almost entirely on modern dual carriageways with low traffic volumes.

If you choose an indirect flight, Skyscanner will advise you if you need to check out and then check in again at the intermediate airport. This can be a pain if you're running late or have several people in tow. However it is usually the cheapest option.

If you want to avoid the cost of a taxi look up www.blablacar.es (click union jack or "en" for information in English). They will put you in touch with someone who is travelling the same journey as you are. You'll pay a contribution towards fuel which compares to the cost of using public transport. All blablacar drivers and their vehicles are checked they are legal and insured. You might even get a direct trip from Malaga to Roquetas without going to Almería.

There are regular return flights from Almeria to London Gatwick all year round. It's getting to Gatwick from other parts of the UK that is often the issue and the flights from Gatwick often depart around 630am - so sometimes requiring an overnight stay. Malaga is the next best bet for flights from other parts of the UK and there is an Express Bus from Malaga to Almeria, takes around 2.5 hours I believe.

Thanks Chris

Could be a pretty expensive journey on top of holiday cost

Hi Chris

Do you are anyone have any detail or links to the Express Shuttle bus.
The normal bus transfers from Malaga to Vera Playa are approx 8 hours.

Cheers
