Hello all,

Applying for the NLV, does the private medical insurance need to be be provided by a Spanish company or can I use a UK based one?

Also can anyone recommend a Company that they have used for such a purpose?

TIA

I think it has to be a Spanish one. But not certain. I used asssa insurance, they had the best package.

Thanks Shane I will take a look at their website.

Can I ask, did you do your NLV yourself or did you use a Lawyer?

I am an EU citizen, but still had to get the insurance for myself and my British wife, I used Monica calvette at BeGlobal Attorneys (monica.calvete@beglobalbcn.com) for my wife's visa. Great helpful English speaking solicitors.

Good Morning Jeff,

I am looking at applying for the NLV also and moving to the Roquetas de Mar area, in a years time or so. I do believe the private insurance needs to be a Spanish one, but if you are a pensioner the form S1 suffices - you can use the Spanish healthcare system. I will be going down this route probably.

Regarding using a lawyer, I have been advised to do this by several people. I have been in touch with a few and the one I have found to be most responsive to my questions is a lady called Lauren Fellows at Legal services in Spain. Her email address is: lauren@legalservicesinspain.com.

She provided an initial information leaflet and has responded to several emails and provided a 30 minute telephone consultation (FOC) which enabled me to prep lots of questions and was very reassuring. Yes, they are more expensive than some other services, but contact with these companies has been minimal because they want me to provide upfront consultational costs and sign them up before answering any further questions beyond the initial information leaflet.

I've also been in touch with a tax advisor who has been similarly accommodating. If you need any more info on this, I can provide his contact details too.

Wishing you the very best of luck with it. Let me know how you get on!
