Britain was declared rabies-free in 1922 after the introduction of compulsory quarantine for dogs from abroad. Your point is...?

no point,  It’s very  simple really,    I’m trying to find out if our dogs need a rabies jab every year to get into Spain.  Or if their Romanian passports, rabies up to date will be ok.   I’m not interested in nit picking.   I can’t find anything on the U.K. site.  So if Spain is rabies free that’s great, if Spain wants their animals to have a jab every year, because they are near Africa that’s great too as my animals will be safe .  I hate the thought of travelling to Spain again.

If you hate the thought of travelling to Spain best not to do it. But if you do - your three year rabies course from the U.K. makes it easy - the protection is in place. It’s only if you live in Spain that you need an annual jab.

L181sky,  Hi, my guess is, and I stress its only a guess, that as your dogs have Romanian Passports, with a Rabies Jab in it, then they should be fine. The only way I can think you might find out definitely is to contact the Spanish embassy in the UK. good luck

I have No choice but to travel to Spain.  At least until our house is sold. It was t a three year one we got it was two years. Now we are stuck in U.K. rabies runs out 1st  Sept .  We won’t be able to get there to renew the rabies before that.   A U.K. vet is no longer allowed to write in an EU passport if it is to remain valid.  So I was worried I would lose the Romanian passports as the AHC is very expensive especially for two ,twice a year !

For anyone resident in the U.K. travelling with pets to the EU.    You will as you know need an Animal Health Certificate, as yet an unknown price, i’ve heard £35 up to £165 so shocking !   Worse if you have two dogs !  and do two trips a year !     It also needs to be in the Language of the EU country you arrive in from U.K.   Very difficult if you got English/Spanish one done then ferry doesn’t go and you need to enter through France !  The worry is only Entry to the EU.not sure yet about the return !       I am currently in touch with the Pet passport office in Carlisle as ,after trying Spanish embassies ,Vets, U.K. Govt sites no one knows Anything !    Individual circumstances are not catered for.  I desperately needed to know if I could get my dogs rabies booster done while we are stuck in U.K. and knowing U.K. vets are no longer allowed to write in an EU passport ( mine are Romanian) I was worried i’d lose their EU passports and need the AHC from now on.    So, I found out that a U.K. vet CAN give the booster but it must accompany the AHC (a one off for us) as a separate cert and once we arrive in the EU a official vet can update the EU passport from the details in the rabies booster certificate . I will update when i find out about the language thing.  Hopefully, it will be just ONE AHC.  and ,  Two, or however many countries you are travelling to or through, translations.   🙈.     Update...   It will be one animal health certificate for each country you could be travelling through. Can only be done from U.K. and valid for four months travel.

The U.k. will accept your cats EU Spanish pets passport just need the worming done. so no hoops for you.     If your cat doesn’t currently have a passport your local vet will sort it out so easily. Just rabies vaccinations same time as ID chip , blood tests and all other boosters done and wormed between 24 hours and 5 days before arrival in UK
