I'm still travelling by Gatwick.  Just back from Almeria, 2 flights out, - Belfast to Gatwick, Gatwick to Almeria and vice versa on return.  An overnight stay in a hotel in Gatwick - the Premier Inn was the cheapest :-} and was right next to the North terminal where my flight to Almeria was going out from.

I must get my act together and look at Belfast to Alicante or Belfast to Malaga.  I know that there is a bus from Malaga to Almeria but I need to try that route out.  Don't know if there a bus or train from Alicante to Almeria.  Those routes would be less expensive.

I opened a bank account with Sabadell. Cost is 'about' €10 a month. Reasonably easy to do but we did pre-book with them before going in.

We send currency from the UK via GCEN (Global currency exchange network). They do not charge to set up an account with them or have fee's when you buy. I guess they make their money from the buy/sell spread though we found their rates very good. It also costs nothing to transfer the money into the Sabadell account,  by either company.

Good luck with it all.

Martin.

I've just checked their web site and its as Bob said (and as my partner and I did last year). You fill the forms out, on line, but then print them and attend in person (with the id, etc), they check them and do their bits, take the payment and the NIE number is emailed to you within about a month.

Thank you

Do you have the web address for the Spanish Consulate.  I Think I got it,  but not sure.  I tried ringing them several times to check if I was on the right page but no answer.  The number that I rang was 020758989 - it just kept ringing.
