I came over to Spain end of December. Wanted to stay until beg of March. I saw some info regarding UK Passport Issue date v expiry date. My passport expires on 11/07/22 but was issued on 11/05/12. With the fact that you need 3 months left on your passport to enter Spain. Does this 3 months take up to the issue date or expiry date when leaving Spain. I.e. Do I have to leave Spain 3 months before the 10 year anniversary of the issue date?
Since the UK left the EU all passports valid for 10 years start from the issue date, any extra time added previously no longer counts so your expiry date will be 11/05/22.
you should have 3 months on your passport on the date that you leave so you will have to renew it or go home before the 3 month date. Gov.UK states that you must have 6 months to travel in the first place.

Thank you for your reply. I understand about the issue date. My query is regarding leaving Spain. Do I have to leave 3 months prior to the 10th anniversary of the issue date of 11th May. I.e. leave Spain before 11th February?

Thanks. I am still unsure if I can remain in Spain after 12th February, i.e. 3 months before the 10th anniversary of issue date. I want to stay until mid March.

answer is NO if reading advice on Gov.uk you should have had 6 months on it before you travelled here from the issue date. you would need to renew your passport to stay longer.

Your here now, a lot of these regulations are about arriving in Spain best you seek guidance from British Embassy in Madrid rather than dashing back to the UK as they should be able to give a more divinitive answer.

Hola. Checked passport situation. Expiry date is the issue date plus 9.5 years. May and not July 2022. Passport already out of date for Spain. I can travel directly back to UK up until the date of expiry as long as I do not travel through any other EU country, i.e. France. Hope that helps other people with a similar issue
