Hi there,

A very warm hello to everyone.

My Husband Brian and I are looking to move to Almeria towards the latter part of this year or next (depending on finishing the renovations we have ongoing at our present home).

Our query is over healthcare.  We would welcome anyone letting us know if healthcare that includes seeing a GP, Consultant or admittance to hospital and having surgery and aftercare sees cost or is this available as it is in the UK, 'free of any charge please?  By 'free' we don't mean that term loosely as we appreciate being born, living and working in the UK all our lives that nothing is free and countless many Brits including Ex-Pats have paid into the UK NHS system.

Would any existing condition be affected if we were to move to Spain and we both realise that Brexit hasnt yet been resolved so we and many others dont have a crystal ball so to speak in regard to healthcare in Spain.

Many thanks

Breianne

Hiya Breianne - me again 😁

I don’t believe you will be coming out with a pension immediately, will you?  If not then you have two choices - private healthcare, or pay Autónomo (the equivalent of the UK National Insurance) and register on the Spanish health system.  I believe that once you are registered with the health system (and paying Autónomo) you are entitled to health care in the same manner as UK.

Dental treatment I believe is separate from the healthcare system BUT is a lot cheaper than the UK and, from our experience, outstanding service.

You can use an EHIC card for Doctors, hospital etc but that is really for holiday makers and would not be valid to be used after 3 months in the country.

You may reside in Spain for up to 3 months on a EU passport, but people wanting to stay longer than 3 months should apply for Residencia

Hi there,

Good evening from the UK.

Thank you for your reply and the information about my healthcare query.

We are still awaiting the outcome of Brexit (i.e. the UK leaving the EU) as this may affect the healthcare side of things in respect of Spain.

We are towards a bank holiday here in the UK so looking forward to an extra day off from work and looking forward to some sunshine (so the UK Weather Forecast informs).

Muchas gracias.  Todos sus datos son valorados y apreciados
