Hi all,

My husband and I (Brit and American) are planning to move to Garrucha or the surrounding area with our 2 year old and 1 year old daughters, likely sometime late next year. We're moving to be close to my husband's parents who are in El Pinar de Bédar but we'd like to be somewhere with a bit more going on and somewhere that might also have some young families. I think a mix of British and Spanish would be ideal, though a more Spanish town is fine too. I speak Spanish pretty well but my husband doesn't at all (yet). We'll be looking for a house as a long-term rental rather than a flat and would love for it to be walkable or close to an area with shops/restaurants. I think a community that is family friendly and within 30 mins of El Pinar is our number one goal. We aren't too fussed about schools yet since we have a few years before we have to worry about that.

Thank you!

Ally

outside Garrucha is a complex of town houses which may be what you require it's on the Bouganvilla roundabout with shops ,bars etc not far to the town of Vera and Garrucha by bus or car near the beaches.  it is called Fuetamar

Hi Ally, we rented in Fuentemar for 3 months October to December. We liked it but it is like a ghost town after September when all the holiday makers have gone home  but manic while they are there. Lots of places in Garrucha close for the winter. Ours was a short term rental while we looked for a property to buy, it is very very busy when holiday makers are there and parking there is a nightmare during this time. We enjoyed it as a short term rental while we looked for our permanent home. Turre is within the distance you are looking for, busy little place and has a market on Fridays and is close enough yet far enough away from Mojacar. Good luck where ever you decide to live. Jan

This is great information, thank you :)  We've visited the region in both high season and low season so have seen the differences. Turre may be a better fit in that sense.

You might want to consider Huerta Nueva in Los Gallardos which is where we are. It has a nice mix of permanent residents and holiday home visitors (that's us, with permanent residents either side). A great local school, a few bars and restaurants, a small supermarket, 5 minutes to Turre, about 12 minutes to Mojacar Playa. And it's close to Bedar.

I live in Los G village.. The facilities are superb. 2 banks, doctor, supermarket, and bars.. The place still holds that village feel.. I bought my house 15 months ago, with my wife who sadly passed away a couple of weeks ago, but she adored it here.. Lovely people, and very down to earth.

Being in the village, has made me decide to stay here.

Good luck

Graham
