I asked the same question last year and was told it’s easier flying in an aeroplane 🤨 In the end the dog came overland with a pet transport company.

The short answer is, very very expensive, and very very stressfull for the dog, would not recommend. Also I think the only airlines that fly pets fly into Madrid, not local airports.

I am sorry I cant tell you the uptodate cost, because it was years ago, and when they explained what the animals went thru I didn't go thru with it. for the 2.5hr Flight from Bristol to Alicanti, the dog was in a cage for between 6/7 hours. (and that was without delays) in a cold hold and very noisey.  My husband said he remembers the cost was in the thousands.  Hope that helps.

It was around £600 and the dog was perfectly happy when she arrived. I'd recommend but the company no longer operate. There are others on the internet doing similar and with good reviews

If it is a miniture type below a certain weight , Iberia/Vueling will allow you bring it in the cabin subject to availability. They fly into Almeria via Madrid or Barcelona.

We have also looked into this and chosen a specialist pet transport company with good reviews that collects and delivers door to door. They only travel on set days, which is quite restrictive, but keep you updated throughout their journey.

The return cost is in the region of £1,000 so we're making the most of our 90 days for that trip!
