Hi Everyone

I have an appointment with a vascular specialist next week and would like to have a medical translator with me JIC..

While I have some Spanish and am aware that all university grads have some English as it has been pointed out, elsewhere on this forum, there is a chance that if the doctor has not been using it frequently they may not have enough to fully explain any treatment I may need.

I went  for a check up, blood tests at  the EV clinic in Vera and found it very good.

The receptionists all spoke English which was good

I entered and said;

''Tengo una cita con un doctor a las once y media'' the receptionist then spoke in extremally rapid Spanish noticed the look on my face and switched to English.

For my check up the doctor spoke English. The girls who took my bloods and gave me an EKG had limited English so we were able to get by in Spanglish.

On my return for my  blood results I saw the same doctor as my last visit so that was grand. I was informed that I needed to have an ultrasound long story short ultrasound tech spoke excellent English and then made me an appointment an for those results and  on my return I  saw a diifferent doctor who had VERY limited English.

Google translate to the fore but really not ideal

So hence the request for a translator.

If it's the Virgen del Mar hospital, they used to have 2 of their own interpreters that you could use without charge.  Might be worth checking with the hospital.

If not, I recommend Matthew Potter, as suggested above, although he tends to be based more at Torrecádenas Hospital.

God luck!

Christina Aldridge, who lives in Almeria and therefore lower travelling fees. Christina looked after me and asked questions on my behalf that I would never have thought if asking.

Her number is

Hope this helps.

Virgen del Mar have two translators Eleanor and Myriam. When you go for your appointment if the Doctor doesn't speak English just ask for the translator, or alternatively ring the hospital first and tell them the date and time of your appointment and request the translator be present.

Thanks for the advice but unfortunately it's in the Vithas hospital. They have translator services but can not guarantee that one will be available.  You can not book one either just rock up and hope for the best.

As for Mathew he's not available at the time of my appointment

I have been using a wonderful lady Maria, she is a nurse at the other hospital part time.  Very good English as she worked in UK. You will feel very relaxed with her, she asked questions I didn't even know I should be asking. Telephone 695589876. Also if you want English speaking Dr the lady who worked previously at Vera now has her own practice on Mojacar Playa Centro Medico Slavica, 950 00 17 89. Cheers Liz Read.

Ring the hospital. They have several translators that you can book in advance and they are free. Point of contact Raquel Ramos. She was very professional and helpful
