For really cheap I would have a look at the Smartphone app. BlaBlaCar; 

How it works is that a person with a car can put their journey in, like on Sat Nav. Travelers put their desired routes in also, and the app. then links you to cars with spare seats that are already travelling along that route.... you might find someone on their way up to Barcelona for example. The charge is like chipping in with the petrol money, they cant make a profit from you.
