Hi, we have had some damp for a couple of years on internal bathroom walls, cant find a leak, but dont know how to investigate if there is a leak properly without having to rip up floor tiles etc.

Has anyone had this problem or know a good plumber who may be able to advise.

Thanks in Advance.

Hi guys

I had a similar problem although up the internal wall of a ground floor bedroom.  I thought I had a leak but it turned out that all the drainage for the property converged under the (tiled) floor and there was a blockage which was too unpleasant to mention.  I think if you are above ground floor this obviously won't be the answer to your damp but not much choice but to take out a bit of wall or floor to investigate.  I used the guys from Homes and Beyond near Las Buganvillas roundabout, Garrucha, to do the initial investigation and the re-plastering and re-tiling after but you may get a better recommendation for a plumber.  Good luck anyway.

P.S.  check your insurance policy to see if the problem is covered - your company may have a plumber they can send to investigate.

Thanks for the reply, mine is ground floor and it's the Internal walls in the hall/shower room, wondering if the shower/sink may have a hidden leak somewhere, did the Homes and Beyond do a decent job in the end for you?

Hi Stuart

The reason I haven't wholeheartedly recommended H & Beyond is that the guys who worked there and were very good have both left and there are new workers who I don't know.  I think if you can find a recommended plumber it might be safer.  Best wishes, P

PS my insurance company did pay up, so have a word with yours before you hire anybody, and take photos.

Call Dan from pukka plastering,he is a professional damp proofer and reliable! Lots of old places here have damp problems, not necessarily a leak at all.call him on 692596618 or 653098329.
