I’ve just changed my bank account from non resident to resident. Can anyone tell me the advantages or disadvantages of this and how it will affect my daily life. Thank you.

Normally the charges are less. However we’ve had an account with Cajasur, 12 years as non resident 5 years as resident and paid no bank charges.

Any tax taken is resident tax, not non resident (non resident is 24%), any bank charges are lower, and more products such as investment and savings accounts are available to you.

There is no downside or disadvantage whatsoever

Unless you are with Caixa bank, they still charge the same for non residents and residents unless you take out insurance policy with them, they are crooks

The only real advantage is that the bank won't block your account every two years if you are a resident. Why would they block my account I hear millions of forum subscribers shout. Quite a few people would have experienced this during the covid years when they couldn't get out to Spain. As I noticed on community forums & facebook posts.

If you are a non-resident then the bank blocks your account every 2 years just to check if you are still alive also for you to provide evidence of your status as a non-resident of Spain. There are other reasons but I am sure they wouldn't apply to the good people on this forum. You have to then go to the bank with your ID to show that you are still alive and kicking and your residency status.

Bank charges didn't change from when we went from non to resident.
