Welcome to Roquetas! For registering on the padron go to the Ayuntamiento at Plaza la Constitución. No appointment required, go left on ground floor at entrance, queue for the door on the right opposite the reception counter. You will need proof of address, i.e. a rental contract or property deed, also passports. No, the officer there does not speak English.

As regards car paperwork - what papers specifically? To change your UK driving licence you have to do this at police Trafico (DGT) in Almeria city, by prior appointment. Beforehand you will need a medical certificate (€50).

To register for a doctor - are you retired? If so, and on UK state pension, then you will need an EU S1 form, the DWP in the UK will send this to your Spanish address. You take this to the INSS in Roquetas to obtain a tarjeta de sanitaire and free access at a health practice - but will need residency first - obtained in Almeria City from the Oficina de Extranjeros.

Thanks Chris for your kind reply. Have noted comments re the Ayuntamiento - I’ll type out requirements on Google Translate.

Regarding the car, it’s a Spanish plate vehicle just need to change address on ownership papers.

Regarding the license, again it’s a Spanish one just requiring address update.

I have got S1 registered in Tenerife so again just need to sign on at the local doctors - is there a local health centre?

Hello, when you change your address at the ayunamiento you take all you car papers and change it there. You have to pay for the road tax there also.

The INSS will allocate you a health centre nearest to where you live. You have to go private if you want to guarantee having a GP that speaks English. Our state health centre GP speaks some English and my wife speaks better Spanish than I do - so between the three of us it gets sorted!
