Hi Dan,
Not sure what end of Roquetas you're going to be living in, but my parents and their group of friends live in the area near The Zorida Hotel. They frequent JJ's Bar and Bar Southern (both on FB) and both have activities going on ie Bingo, Grand National Day, Ladies that Lunch (this is a great way for your wife to get to know the other women in the area) Bar Dori is a lovely friendly bar and Pepe the co owner speaks brilliant English, as does Juan at The Lodge further down the road. In Playa Serena's Chaplin's and Lady Lays (next door to each other) have lots of activities going on and the golf is another great way to meet new friends. Me and my hubby have just bought an apartment to use as a holiday home so we will be spending more time over there too!
I've holidayed there for 14 years and have found it a lovely friendly place. You'll make new friends easily and there is a good mix of ages of people who live out there permanently or just visit for holidays.
I'm back out on 14th May for 4 days to sort the purchase out, can't wait!
Good luck with your move x
