hi

I really want to start to offer a reflexology, holistic therapies and footcare service to residents of this region but unsure of the best way to procceed.  i am moving over to aquadulce in september and will be working part time as a language teacher and will be paying into the system . Am i able to advertise and gain clients before registering for sole trader as i ve read that you have to pay upfront for NI CONTRIBUTIONS...i am wondering how this is possible if i  havent got any until i ve built up my clientelle.

any advice welcome

A good idea will be to first take a look at registering with OCN-FENACO here in Spain and have them recognize your qualifications.  My wife is a Naturopath and couldn’t practice until she had registered and been accepted.

Website is https://colegionaturopatas.es/

And just in addition to this, the reason I have recommended this site is because OCN-FENACO are the governing body for all holistic / complimentary therapies in Spain - not just Naturopathy.

I also know someone up in my area who do a pretty much what you do here (she doesn’t go as far as RQDM though), so I’ll ask her as well and see what advice / information she can offer

With regards advertising for clients before registering, the advice I can give is “I wouldn’t” - this again is based strictly on my wife’s experience in setting up here.  She had to register with Seguridad Social and register to pay Autónomo before she could legally start advertising / taking on clients.  This is because without that you cannot register with OCN-FENACO and without THAT .... your not insured;  you COULD “fly under the radar” take cash only etc.  But down that track lies insanity and probably bankruptcy because a) if you get found practicing without registering a business / Autónomo / insurance, there can be some extremely heavy fines. And of course b) if you don’t have insurance and a “problem” arises with a client resulting in legal action .... you’re in the brown smelly stuff up to your ankles..... and you’d be in head first ...,

Given we’ve just been through the whole process of registering a business / Autónomo / OCN-FENACO, if you’d like more info, drop me PM with your phone number / email address and we’d be happy to tell you of our experiences

Saludos, Darío

Thank you so much for all your advice . I 'll check into the registering and get back in touch with you .  Is there much demand?? I probably guess more so with the expat community ???

The lady up here in Vera / Turre who does it is rushed off her feet (pardon the pun ...)

It’s taken her a while to build a solid client base, but yes, there’s plenty of work.  I’d also recommend learning Spanish so as not to limit yourself to just one segment of the available market
