A long time ago, in a galaxy...
No, not that story - I moved to the midlands and all my family friends, sports activities and socials from work disappeared with the new job. I had previously joined asocial group to break out of my lifestyle, good as though it was. It was formed from people who had been in Rotaract and at 28 they got thrown out of the club. Wanting their fun social activites and life to continue and not don the carpet slippers and armchair too soon, they devised a scheme of meeting on a regular weekly basis. They would hold one of these meetings to decide on a diary; peoples birthdays, visits to museums, ten pin bowling etc -the events were voluntary and each event would be run by one individual with others - especially the quiz evenings and charity fund raising events?
From what I know of Mojacar and Garrucha there are already regular meetings and there is the Mingles commercial group who hold singles evenings - but you also meet a lot of people who already play sports, go walking or go on shopping expeditions etc - the Focus magazine has some of these groups already listed.
The main problem with regular meets is that cliques can form and it becomes a meeting place for one kind of person. Keeping the group varied is a skill too. A variety of events brings different people together. If you take a look at the Internations website, mainly aimed at working expats you will se there are a lot of retired folk from all kinds of places? The last event I went to in Granada had fourteen different nationalities and over twenty languages spoken, though English and Spanish dominated.
Not that I am expecting you to do all this or even be interested but for anyone reading this, all these things go on already but there has to be a lot of potential for a non-obligatory events list in your local area? All of which has to be better than sitting in "God's Waiting Room"!??
