Can someone let me know what the rules are on mask wearing please? I understand you need to wear them in shops, whilst walking down the prom etc, but what about if you are sitting on the rocks/beach? If out on a 'proper' walk (i.e. a hike for exercise)? I take it you don't need to wear one if sitting outside a bar or restaurant? Any advice would be gratefully received, we are coming over in 2 weeks and don't want to get caught out.

Many thanks

masks must be worn at all times unless eating or drinking at bar or restaurants.   Many people exercise without wearing one but you should  carry one to wear as soon as you stop.  not worn in car unless travelling with someone who is not part of your household.  on the beach you are expected to wear it from and to the beach and when walking along the wateredge.  not when swimming or sitting on the beach.  some places have banned smoking on the beaches too but generally you must not smoke unless 2 metres away from anyone else, this rule is being ignored in a lot of cafes on the terraces but applies even if you are sitting with partner or friends who don't smoke.  you should also not wear it under your chin or nose but lots do!  they are readily available in supermarkets, pharmacies and shops disposable or reusable.  all shapes and sizes.  the down side is when it's hot they are horrible to wear!

Hi Louise.

It's pretty straightforward. You are allowed to take off your mask while seated in a bar or restaurant and while sitting at your spot on the beach. If you get up to use the toilet or go for s walk along the beach you need to wear it. Also, no mask needed in your family's car. At all other times in public spaces we have to mask up.

Just to add to the other comments. While exercising is running etc you are not expected to wear one, walking the dog or yourself you are. I add this cause I keep seeing people not wearing them while walking.!!!!
