Hi All

First post and new to this site.

My husband and I have visited Almeria City several times of the past few years and also Roquetas.

We are wanting to retire to either the City of Roquetas at the end of 2020 but are spending our next visit (september) viewing properties as we may buy before we retire.

What I would like to know is how we open a bank account now without us having  an address in Spain ?  Can we open an account on our visit in September with a UK address?

We would also like to know what is the best and most cost effect way of paying money from our UK account to a Spanish bank account?

Any advise would be great thanks

Tx

The best place to open an account is with Sabadell in Roquetas centre. Their branch has at least two English speakers. We opened a non-residents account in March 2018 before arriving that June. There is a €30 quarterly charge. Once we became residents we switched to a free residents account - you have to pay €700 a month into your account.

The thing is - you will need to get residency before 31 Oct 2019, Brexit fall off a cliff day. After that date U.K. citizens will become third country nationals and new arrivals post-Brexit may have difficulty obtaining residency due to quadrupled annual income requirements.

Many thanks for your reply.

We are probably going to be the first set of UK Citizens who want to retire to Spain after Brexit as we will not be able to do this before October this year.

I think we will have to sit back and see how it all pans out.

Thank you for the banking information and a non residents account would be suitable for the moment

Best wishes, you should have no difficulty getting a non-residents account. Let's just hope that No Deal Brexit does not happen. If we obtaain no Brexit at all (or failing that an EEA arrangement) those of us living in Spain will be relieved.
