Hello to any good samaritan out there?!

I need to book my first ITV test (nearest station is Albox) for sometime over the next few weeks. I don't speak any Spanish and I understand that because the car owner is required to participate, that some understanding of the language will be necessary to ensure the test can run smoothly.

Whilst I am aware that I have the option of using a translator or a garage who will provide a service for a price, I am trying to avoid a further cost on top of the ITV test charge. I am a pensioner and like most people I try whenever I can to avoid additional charges if I can.

Is there anyone either around Alfoquia & Zurgena or close to Albox that has experience of doing the ITV test themselves and is comfortable with the process who might be prepared to come along with me and help out with the on-board translation of instructions. Hopefully, in subsequent years I can learn enough spanish to do this myself.

I appreciate this is a lot to ask of a stranger, but I would be very grateful for someone willing to give up some of their time.

If you can help, I will book the appointment for a date & time to suit yourself.

Thank you.

I’ve had mine done 3 times and language has not been a problem. Get a number, Go to reception with all paperwork (insurance etc). and the man at the desk will sort it and you pay him. Cards only I believe. Go and wait in your car outside and wait till you reg number comes up on the display.  Drive to your designated lane(there are only 2). When you are called in you will be given a walkie talkie and the examiner will give you instructions via that. It’s not as comprehensive as U.K. so you do breaks, lights, indicator etc yourself. It’s easy really and mines a shed but never failed. Good luck.

I put together this list of translations to assist me with the ITV.  Fortunately for me, on the first ITV the technician spoke English and on the second ITV my car was the only one there so a second technician carried out 'my role'. This was at Lorca ITV station.

Print the list and take it with you, this may help you;

Translations for ITV test

 Headlights                    Los faros

 Back lights                   Luces traseras

Brake lights                  Luces de los frenos

 Fog lights                     Faros antiiebla

 Left                               Izquerda

 Right                            Derecha

 Steering wheel            Volante

 Windscreen wipers      Limpia para brisas

 Indicators                     Intermitente

 Hazards                       Cuatro intermitentes

 Reverse lights              Marcha atras

Thanks for this very helpful reply. It does give me some comfort that you have managed the test yourself a few times albeit with a 'crib' list.

Pleased that you find it helpful. Bite the bullet and go along to the ITV centre. I use Google translate to assist if needed. I have always found the staff (at Lorca) very helpful.
