That sounds familiar is it nearer the coast you have moved to be fly free?

Hi all,

I have been following your posts as we're leaving Western Australia next year to live in Almeria. We've been looking at the villages in the Albox area.

Can anyone recommend areas with fewer flies as 'fewer flies' has now gone onto our check list of features to look for in our new home and its location.

Hi.  We stay in a top floor apartment in Vera Playa and get a few flies at certain times of year but nothing worth worrying about.  We were advised to get screens for our doors but this is our 3rd year here and so far haven't needed them.  Just choose carefully where you buy.

Don't know if this will work on the more determined Spanish flies, but for years now during the few weeks of summer we enjoy in the UK I've been half filling clear sandwich bags with water and popping a few copper coins in each bag. I hang them around the garden, outside window openings and the flies just stay away. It's something to do with the refracted light from the coins, scares the flies away. Haven't seen any flies so far this year as it hasn't stopped raining.
