Good afternoon all.

My wife and I hope to complete on our new property in the HO area in November.

We need a car to stay in Spain that will be left at the airport is we go back to the UK.

1.  Can anyone advise on who they would use to matriculate a UK vehicle and also give advice on an estimate of the cost please?

2.  Any recommendations on which vehicle manufacturer to buy?  Are there any cars that you know has difficulty in getting spares as they are maintained?

3.  I was considering purchasing a UK left hand drive as LHD are cheaper in the UK and then getting matriculated in Spain.......any pro’s or con’s for this?

Thank you in advance for any advice

1. The cost is a “how long is a piece of string” question - depends entirely on vehicle type, age, price of spares etc - if it’s a newer car, headlights can be switched to dip opposite side, if they can’t be switched, it means change of headlight units.  Cheap for some cars, not so much for others.  There is also the cost of import tax to be considered.

2. You tend to see a lot of Peugeots, Citroens, Toyotas etc on the road, and good percentage are diesels.  Not so many BMWs - still some, but again parts will be expensive.  Some Mercedes as well.  Same applies as with Beemers.  Of course, lot of Seats etc.

3.  If you can get an LHD Peugeot / Citroen / Toyota or similar for a good price, it would at least put the steering wheel on the right side of the car for you.  Bonus if you can get a diesel - apart from the fact they get better economy than a petrol engine, they are plentiful here which means plentiful supply of spares.

(For info I drive a 2005 2.0 litre HDi Peugeot 407)

Perhaps buy a LHD in Belgium/France,then everything is as it should be then take that to Spain
