UK & Irish/Euro national retirement

As an Irish passport holder you can come and go but after 90 days are expected to register as a resident but your husband is bound by the Schengen rule of 90 days in every 180.  There is much talk about this being abolished by Spain but this is not a done deal as 'Brussels will have the last say on that one.  So unless you can come via the visa route in the future it will be difficult to retire here but not impossible.

As an Irish passport holder, you can get Residencia, your husband can come in as family member / dependent of an EU citizen.  No need for visas

If you are married for more than three years he can apply for an Irish passport through marriage and gain all the benefits that you would get 👍

Hi Ernie, thank you but as we are based in England and not Ireland I don’t think this is an option. I think this changed a few years ago as we had looked into it about 15 years ago and he wouldn’t do it. He’s regretting it now! Kind regards Mary 

We are in the process of getting an Irish passport for my wife, through her grandmother and I am sure that the Irish government website said that a spouse could get a passport 3 years after marriage or 3 years after the granting of Irish citizenship whichever was later. It might be worth having a look to confirm that and we are in Scotland.
