White vinegar, spray all the areas where ants have been or are.
Spray skirtings around door frames.
They sound like ' brick ants' and can get through gaps that you cannot see.
We moved into a new apartment that had been empty for ten years. The ant colonies were well established over many years living inside the brickwork with a run spanning 30 odd apartments.
In the end I bought 6 filler tubes and went all round every skirting, every door frame and filled everything.
They were even coming through a gap that human eyes could not see between the tiling and the bath.
Finally I bought some 'one ano, flykiller took off all the light switches and sprayed inside ( I do this every six months)
Ants were coming through the light switches either side of the bed and were invading the bed, horrible.
This treatment stopped them!
Finally, check under the sinks and toilets. Builders very often cut a square hole and fit a round pipe.....Fill the gaps with flexible mastic. Also include under the sink. Check the cut off valves in the kitchen and bathrooms.
Make sure all tins, boxes, food in the kitchen are in sealed boxes or storage bags, particularly biscuit's.
Brick ants will travel a long way for a crumb.
Finally, don't listen to neighbours who tempt you saying ' we haven't got any ants'. Means they are blind lol.
I had a neighbour who said this, on challenge. So I went to see them with a powerful torch and a large magnifying glass.
Of course they were horrified to find they were infested they just could not see them under normal conditions.
Most Spanish houses, villas, apartment blocks are infested with brick ants.
Would be sensible to follow some of the preventative measures other friends have described to you. But sealing all the gaps is the only permanent answer.
Good luck :)
😱😱😱 That sounds like what we’ve got! I can only see em with my specs on. And, yes, they emerge from under the ‘skirting boards’ which aren’t actually attached to the floor! Not sure my OH will be delighted but I’m going to show this post to him and send him off to the ‘ferrety shop’ for sealant.
