Looking for a holiday home. Just wondering why there is so much for sale in the moorish development. I have seen that properties in the area can be very cold outside of sunshine hours in winter months despite the agents saying min 20 degrees all year round. Perhaps solar panels would offset the high cost of heating? Also i have learned it is much cooler the higher above sea level.  Forgive my ignorance as I really don't know the area at all and wondered why there is quite a selection of properties  available.

You'll need heating in the Winter evenings anywhere in Almeria, Cabrera is approx 300 metres above sea level, so not much different to Turre, except when its windy! Night temps generally don't go much lower than 8/9 degrees in Winter, but you can get some exceptional lows and highs. During the summer it is often over 30 degrees, generally the weather even in the Winter is pretty good (although today its raining and 13!!) and the views are great. We have double glazing and a log burner, but only heat the house in the evenings Nov-March.

We have just spent our first winter in Almeria. We have only used our electric radiators twice however had a blanket on the bed. I think the more years you are here the more you will feel winter, although I am colder now than I was in winter where we were eating outside

When there's low cloud Cabrera is affected due to its altitude, visibility in lessens considerably. Depending on how far up you go, the condition of the road surfaces is variable. Apart from the responses given by others, another reason may be that you have to drive everywhere to access  anything - eg: a drive to the shops for food, toiletries, loo rolls, cleaning products, a drive to the doctor or dentist, a drive to the bank, post office, town hall, police, a drive to the beach, a drive to get a variety of bars, cafes or restaurants, a drive to clothes or furniture shops, a drive to get gasoline or have your car repaired and serviced etc etc. Whilst this may not be a problem at present, as you get older or in the winter months, having to drive to access facilities can be onerous.

Thank you Susi. We currently have to drive to get to the places you mention and don’t see this as a problem although I get what you are saying about age. I am 71 next month and agile at the moment and do Pilates but things can change quite quickly. I am concerned about where the moorish properties are and the condition of the roads but also like the way they are nearer to the coast and airport than the places that my husband is favouring ie. Arboleas and Cantoria.  I see how the taxi fares to and from airport are very expensive and have been told that a lot of people fly in and out of Murcia and store their cars with Segura there until they return, in which case we would be buying a car to leave in Spain. This is quite a bit further and concerned about family and friends coming over perhaps when we aren’t there and could they get their own insurance to cover them. I have heard they can get a policy in UK and not to buy the ones that the car hire providers offer at the airpo. Lots of questions I know but want to get it right before taking the leap. I have looked at properties in Murcia but Andalusia looks so much prettier and not commercialised.

If or when you come over you may be interested to know that I am a fully qualified teacher of both Yoga and Pilates, teaching classes in the local area;  Yoga in Gimnasio Turre and Yoga and Pilates in Platino Gym on Mojácar Playa. Let me know when you're out and, if you wish, I can send details of my teaching schedule. Best wishes,  Sue

In Spain it is your car that is insured.... not the person, unless under a certain age or usually if you have had an accident in the last 5 years....As for living up in the Cabrerra, well don't forget the milk!!!

As for the airport you can get Exclusive shuttle bus for about 37 euros.or plane parking is about 250 ish euros for a year ,which will cover you for both Murcia and Alicante. So you can fly out of either, and back to either depending on the cheapest flight. They will bring your car at no extra cost. Both services are excellent.
