Both have lots going for them. Rent for 6 weeks in each in the off season and believe me you'll know where you want or not want to live.

Both are lovely. In Vera Playa, you have direct access to a bus that goes from Vera town to Mojacar Playa. Worth thinking about when you no longer drive. A lot of places are closed in winter in Villaricos. In Vera Playa you have some cafes and restaurants open all year plus you have consum and of course the beach also.

If Jen-Jen agrees with me on anything, I think I'll have to employ a minder who might save me from an assassin's bullet.

Agree with Matthew, but I would choose Vera Playa as Villaricos is too far out if you don't drive. As for San Juan de Los Terreros.... way too far out in my opinion and isolated (and in some areas unfinished..!!). Again if you don't drive you will be isolated. Don't even think about trying to get a space on the beach during the summer....!!!

We actually bought our apartment in Palomares in 2003 and have no regrets. Had stayed in Villaicos from 1986 at both Los Conteros and La Forteleza. However did not want an apartment there as too touristy. Spent a couple of years looking around before we bought and have no regrets about choosing Palomares. It is still a Spanish village with everything you need in walking distance  from the centre.

Unfortunately many of the Vera Playa urbanisations have few little shops so need to drive for minor needs.

I would look at Palomares as well before you decide. I should not be sayin this really as likeour village as it is.

I think it does depend on what you want.

We love Palomares as it is relatively quiet and yiu can get most things you need in the village.

three supermarkets (no more expensive than consuum) Butchers (0pen 3 times a week0 Bakery (every day) Fishmongers (Tue - Sat) Two banks, several bars, a nice restaurant (Dulce Casa). Hairdressers, Beauticians

In fact every thing you need.

Hover you do need a car as bus service poor
