Vera has a Centro de Salud and can attend to “minor emergencies” open 24/7.  This is a public health care facility. The nearest hospital which include an A & E is in Huercal Overa about 20/25 minutes drive from Vera. Both are very good in my families experience only caveat would be you need to be able to converse with staff in Spanish o take a translator.

As regards the Vera centre being Private. No,   My husband had a heart attack and was taken first to Vera where they stabilised him before taking him to Huercal Overa. Stayed there overnight and moved him to Torrecardenas in Almeria next day for three stents.   He was in for 15 days to make sure he was ok.     The thing is,  when the ambulance pulled into Vera he was taken straight into be dealt with. I handed over his EH1C card and Passport .  The receptionist entered his details and gave me the card back.  That was it.   Never heard another thing.   Since that happened I don’t want to be more than 15 min from a hospital in daylight .  Looking at property when the sun is out is wonderful, driving along lovely quiet tracks ,wonderful. Picture it at midnight though.   We are in the sticks and an ambulance would never have found us.  But we have good road access.  We had to go to Los Gallardos Petrol Station and they called,  also,  you must tell the operator it’s a heart attack. They will send a doctor, the garage people DIDNT and all they sent was a transit van, an ambulance with only a driver is just that.  I had to sit in the back stopping him rolling all over the place on my own worried sick.  I hope this info seriously helps someone.  .i didn’t have to say anything,  just handed the card over.

Thank you.  He is fine that was a few years ago.  The memory is still so strong it must have come over as yesterday sorry.   But all still relevant.  Kind regards.
