This 90day stay rule then have to leave.

Does anyone check on this?

What happens if you stay 100 days etc.

when you pass through customs you'll be checked and fined for the length of overstay.  if you are picked up by the Guardia whilst in the area and they find you've exceeded the time limits again you'll be fined and told to leave the country.

Thanks for that but..... many times when we leave Spain we just get waved through.

90 days in 180 starts 1 Jan 2021 for British Nationals. You can expect border checks to be tightened right up for travelers to / from UK.  If you overstay you will be fined - heavily - and can be deported and banned from re-entry for up to 5 years.

I used to think 90 in 180 was current, as EU citizens can only be here 90 days before they have to register.  I have since learnt that an EU citizen overstaying without registering is an administrative offence only and subject to a maximum 700€ fine and that 90 in 180 only applies to non EU nationals.  After 1/1/21, overstay at your own risk.

They are bringing in an ETIAS system for UK nationals which is similar to the electronic.'visa' you need for entry to USA . You apply online and it's electronically checked when you enter and leave the country. That's how they'll find people who overstay.

Thanks for that. Just a shame that the uk voted to come out of the EU.

That’s another story!!

ETIAS now only coming online 2023 (and TIE / Residencia card holders exempt for travel in Europe yayyyyyy)

They will most certainly tighten up checks at the border to / from UK though as from 1/1/21

Hiya Patricia,

ETIAS is the online Schengen Visa; anyone outside the Schengen Zone will need to apply online for an ETIAS visa to travel into the Schengen area.  It’s predicted it will cost around £7 and be valid for 3 years.

Some countries are exempt - I’m

Not certain if Ireland is one of them; being gs Ireland remains in the EU you’d hope so!!

I’ll take a quick look online, see what I can find
