we are both 60 so not eligible for Spanish NHS cover, so 3 years ago went self employed and have an atonimo and run a small buisiness to help pay the approx 360 euros a month  outlays including our accountants who also do our Spanish tax returns once a year

i have read that after 5 years of your green card residencia which we have lived here for can apply for full time Spanish residencia thus meaning we could then stop being self employed and pay this large amount of money , cease trading yet still retain the Spanish NHS cover or do we need to wait another 2 years

and if it was good to go now or in 2 years what is the criteria to get the full time residencia

TIA

After 5 years legal residence you automatically become a permanent resident BUT … as I have been advised (and found through research) that does not automatically entitle you to Spanish health cover - you still need to be either pensioner with S1, Autónomo, on Convenio Especial or on Private Health (you can go onto Convenio Especial and get Spanish health cover after 1 year of legal residence, but it still requires a contribution of around 60€ per person - still hell of a lot cheaper than Autónomo though!!)

top man Dario great information, if the Autonamo goes down to the proposed 90 euros a month which would be our income bracket it might be a better option for us but that also is 18 months away BUT again is an better option cheers again

The Convenio Especial is €60 per month until age 65, it then increases to €157 per month.

i will stick to the new proposed autonamo costs for a further 7 years until retirement  at 67 that,s a better deal as the autonamo has good built in details including widows and widowers pensions and sock pay worth the money if it goes down
