My name is Sue and I worked as a teaching assistant in the UK for over 20 years, mainly supporting children with Special Needs. I am currently working as an Autonomo  (self-employed) in the Vera area, mainly cleaning and household tasks so far, but I would love to get back to the work I truly enjoy!

My Spanish is fairly basic, but improving all the time, I am accustomed to using Makaton and also PECS ( the picture exchange system) with children who have communication difficulties and have worked both in school and at home with children facing a wide range of difficulties, many of whom were also on the Autistic Spectrum.

There is nothing more rewarding than helping a child, whether ' differently-abled ' or not, to develop their potential and enjoy life to the full, and I hope that in some way I can enjoy this privilege again.

Hi Sue, welcome and congratulations on finding work here :-D

With your qualifications you should approach either Spanglish on Calle Mayor, Vera, or La Palmeral, corner of Calle San Cleofas / Calle Juan Anglada in Vera.  There isn't likely to be anything until September when schools go back, and by this time contracts will have been filled, but you might be able to get a foot in the door as a standby teacher.

I do believe you will need a TEFL 150 hours qualification or similar as well.

I am suggesting English teaching jobs as with basic Spanish only, you are not going to find positions in the wider school system - also I am not sure of equivalency of qualifications etc needed for both State and Private schools

Thank you for the advice 😀. I will look into those options, in the meantime am hoping there may be someone who would like home schooling /support for their child in the holidays. Sue
