Liam, Look in the mirror. The person you see is on a one way ticket to disaster. Go back to your mother country, go to college, enjoy life and when you're about 50 and have been even somewhat successful buy a place in coastal Spain.
Sorry!

I agree. Finish your education, get a trade and for goodness sake learn Spanish. At your age you should learn more quickly than soneone of retirement age.

As it happens Liam is my son. I didn't know he had joined this site. We came to Spain as a family last September. Liam has aspbergers and dyslexia but that hasn't stopped him looking for work when we all know there are few to go about in the current climate either here in Spain or in the UK. i applaud him for trying. So Matthew how is he supposed to go back to UK and live and support himself and enjoy life ? I find your comments unhelpful. Also he is in the process of trying to learn Spanish yes its easier at his age but it still takes time !

Hi Chris, If I caused any kind of offence I apologise unreservedly. I replied with my opinion. I hope your son gets meaningful emplayment asap.
If the same post was posted tomorrow by somebody else I would respond as I did to your son's post.

May I suggest you take this as a lesson to maybe be a bit more sensitive with your words as often we don't know the whole story. While your sentiments were good natured regarding learning the language it is always better to word it in a friendlier way

Liam, I applaud your efforts, but you have a couple of challenges you need to be aware of:
1. Your age. Youth unemployment is high, especially in the middle of this blasted pandemic, with many of the traditional routes for you i.e. bars and restaurants - laying off staff right now. Possibly it will pick up again closer to summer - here’s hoping.
2. Your nationality. Like it or not, certainly down this part of the country nepotism is rife. Any jobs that are available will go to family members and close family friends.
3. Language. Possibly not so much of a barrier in the more English or bigger tourist areas, such as Malaga, Benidorm etc etc - but your location says Vera. I have a shop in Vera, and 99.9% of the clients who come through my door are Spanish; 96% I’d say of them speak NO English.
You are going to face some challenges. I can offer only two suggestions at the moment - first, get the free DuoLingo app on your phone and do it every day. I know with Aspergers and Dyslexia it’s going to be more of a challenge for you, but with DuoLingo you can set your own goal for the day - as much or as little as you can manage. DuoLingo teaches by repetition repetition repetition so may benefit you there.
The second suggestion is to get the free JobToday app and register, and see what jobs become available in and around your area and apply for them via the app.
Good luck, you have challenges, but they are not insurmountable. You’ve taken the first step.

He is into acting and wants to be an entertainer which of course is pretty much impossible at the moment. good luck to Liam he has made the first steps maybe he will find someone who will give him a chance.
