Hi to All....

Mark, Sera, Frankie and Angeline are considering moving to Vera from Poitiers France to be near family.... We would love to hear feedback/experiences, positive or otherwise.... our main concern is where the kids (10 and 14 ) will get an education.... International schools are probably too expensive....so possibly public school and some private Spanish tuition.....We have a small furniture fitting/carpentry business so may be able to generate some income...again feedback welcomed.....

Many Thanks in advance...

I live and work in Vera, and love it here.  Schools - I THINK the nearest International School is Almería, some 80 kilometers away, but I really am not certain.  Any school around Vera is going to be Spanish; however at that age, they’ll pick the language up incredibly quickly.

They may be a little bored though, Vera being a pueblo, there is NOT a lot to keep them entertained here.  It’s a true pueblo of around 16.000 people, with all its own festivals etc.  I find it a very very friendly town and as I say, love it here.

We run a Yoga studio in Vera, and it’s taken us nearly a year to become established and recognised by the local populace.  We work hard at speaking Spanish - hard not to as 99.8% of our clients are Spanish speaking and of that I’d say 90% at least speak NO English.  That is something you’ll need to take into account if you intend to work here.

Andalucia offers a small business startup grant, which you would likely qualify for - get yourself an Asesora to guide you through the nightmare that is the Spanish tax system!!  Again, if you are working, you’ll need to pay Autónomo.  Andalucia is offering a “special” where your payments are pegged for first 24 months, instead of increasing every six until maximum is reached.  Payment of Autónomo isn’t optional and Seguridad Social have announced they are cracking down on people who offer a “cash only” business service and are not paying Autónomo.

Property in and around Vera is reasonably priced to both buy and rent and Vera is serviced by all the major banks and boasts 6 supermarkets - a Lidl, Coviran, Maxi-Día, Icelands, Supermercado-Vega (open Sundays) and a brand new a quite large Mercadona.

Nearest “big” city is Almería, 50 minutes drive away, nearest IKEA is Murcia, 1 hour 15 mins in the other direction.  Vera is well serviced by the E15 / A7 Autovía and it’s pretty easy to get to both Almería and Murcia

Bojour

Bien venu, we lived in the South of France for a few years and still love to speak French as its a beutifull language, we've been here now 21 yrs, it's been a great time, we still love it all especially as we are near Vera Town and its charm.

We were 54 yrs old when we retired so, pretty easy to do, as long as, if you seek out work you'll find it, if you don't ,you'll run out of money, long term.

We normally meet up in Vera square cafe, for a chat on all  subjects concerning living in Spain in this area.

Schools, international school on the left hand side of the road going towards Garrucha, get a price per year before you dismiss it, 14 yrs old is a bit tricky moving schools as it about the time for exams etc. but the best education is priceless your children will thank you for it when they are older

Hi

We have had an apartment in Vera Playa for 12 years and visit every 6 weeks  we are looking at moving permanently as it's so lovely and peaceful and there are some really good restaraunts and the beach is great. We keep ourselves active by cycling, kiting,  walking, yoga,  swimming and tennis etc.

My personal opinion is the place is great for youngsters as long as they enjoy all the free outdoor life activities.

It is a friendly place and I would recomend it a good place to live.

Good luck

Hi

Hope you enjoy Vera and surrounding areas.

We live near the Playa all year round having moved from another part of Spain ( Cordoba) to here a year ago. We love it. I agree there are lots of outdoor activities. Down at the beach there is a sports area that does all kind of sports for any age. I see lots of kids there. They play Handball and other games, don't know the names 😌

You can swim in the sea or in the community pool in Vera. There seems to be lots of areas with sports centres.

There is a big shop down from here that rents bikes all year round both electric and Manuel. There is a water park also down from us Open in the summer and after 3 30 pm it's cheaper.

There are lots of places to walk and cycle. There is a bowling Club in Mojacar which is past Garrucha.

I do that know anything about schools but I have seen advice of one of these sites for local schools where they send English speaking children so keep looking.

You also won't have to ferry your children everywhere as there is a really good bus service that travels between Mojacar Playa and Vera town. 🤗🤗

Good luck. 🐞🍀
