Hi, 4-5 hours gets you to Madrid, we did this same run in early March, bringing partners car down from Essex/Portsmouth, weather was unpredictable and ferry was a little late, so by the time we got going we knew it would be dark, we'd previously booked a great airbnb place just away from the centre, comfortable bed, handy for restaurants cafes etc, underground parking etc.

Had a good nights sleep rested and re-started our journey south, weather still unpredictable, the further south we drove the worse it got with rain bucketing down.

You can, if you share the drive, presuming there's two of you do the journey in around 9 hrs even with a couple of stops.

Not sure of any hotels but you can get much better bargains, even whole apartments on airbnb much cheaper than a hotel.

Google or even trivago will get you some great places.

Hi, I'm sure you are aware of the various sites to access for accommodation but as we travel in a motorhome can't advise about hotels, etc. Are you driving straight through or do you intend to take in some sights?

Personally we avoid Madrid like the plague and do Pamplona, Logrono, Zarragoza, Teruel.etc. so If you plan your route you will have a better idea of where to stop. If you then go on Tripadvisor for the town/ city you will get hotels, etc. & recommendations. Hotels.com  & Booking.com do the same.

Maybe someone will come up with specifications hostelries but safe journey and enjoy the trip.

Best Wishes,

Bob and Sandra

Has anyone done the trip non stop in a day? If so would like to hear about it as we are driving over in May and don't want to stop but just get on with it so to speak :)

Regards

Kev.

Dont know it can be done without some night driving.

Ferry doesnt get in till early afternoon and difficult to get going much before 3 I'd be guessing.

We got off the ferry in Bilbao and by the time we got to airbnb in Madrid it was dark.

Roughly 9.5 hours from either port will have you trying to find accomodation around midnite. Not easy.

Hi Kev,

Yes, we do it in one go when we travel via ferry. Takes about 9 hours non-stop from Albox area, but we take ten and stop a couple of times for comfort breaks. Watch the ferry times, if it is a late departure/arrival, you could be driving through the night. Good luck!

Hi thanks for the reply.

We will be getting the ferry that arrives in the morning so will have a bash at getting down south in one go. I know it adds on a little more time but has anyone driven down the east coast instead of the Madrid route? And if so which one do you prefer?

Cheers,

Kev.

A liitle more time ??, have you checked any maps of Spain ?, surely any advantage you'd gain with an early morning dock you'd lose going the extra distance plus toll roads, you'll more than likely either be stopping more or arriving at Vera Playa in the dark.

There are quite a few restaurants along the way and stopping places we completed the journey in about 9 hours dependant on traffic only stopped for a short time to fill up and a cup oftea
