Need to get PCR test before going to Santander to catch ferry back to UK  (within 72 hour limit).

Does anybody know where these tests are available, in Vera (preferably)

there was a posting on here saying that they were available at the Farmacia de la Cruz Belmonte Mena in Calle Alfredo Almunia 16, 04620.  farmaciaveracentro.es.   I would expect you'd need an appointment though and how it would work within the time limit for driving you would have to work out.  Any delay anywhere on route and you are stuffed!

Hi,

I originally posted back in November about a PCR test in Vera.  You can see the post here.  PCR Test Vera

As Alicia 11 rightly said, it's Farmacia de la Cruz Belmonte Mena.  There was a website link but it appears to have stopped working.

My partner had it done at the end of November 2020 before flying.

They speak good English so it's not a problem calling them, explain it's for flying.

Test was done lunch time and results obtained the following day in the afternoon.

The test was written in English with Passport number and was dated with the time of the result and not the test.  This way you did not lose the first 24 hours from your 72 hours window.  Cost was €140

Hope this helps.

If you find someone please let me know.  I have tried the Pharmacies, Laboratories, Town Hall.  No success, people say try them and I do but they say no.

Hi I have found  that the 1st farmacia to the left of the Parque Commercial Mojacar Shopping Centre when viewed from the sea

does the tests . No appointment needed and you just stand in line at the top of the ramp of farmacia car park. It is not necessary to pay for a PCR test to enter UK as an antigen test is acceptable if it complies with that quoted at Gov.uk site which this farmacia does. Cost is 50 euros. results 30 mins approx. If you want a PCR they doit but results much longer and dearer. In both cases take your passport as they attach result in it. best wishes Derek

Hi Delfrog, Thank you very much because I am getting desperate to get this sorted..  If you only need this and not a PCR why don't they tell you this?  How long is this test good for do you know because we have to get to the Channel Tunnel.  Thank you for your help.  Yorkshire Barbara

HI- Best answer I think is at the end

Its not a matter of how long the test last its the fact that you have it within 72 hours of your departure time to England. The Gov uk site gives details of the tests acceptable here.Coronavirus (COVID-19) testing before you travel to England - GOV.UK (www.gov.uk) Many medical centres of course prefer the 140-150 euro fee for PCR as aginst the 40-50 for the antigen test.

In your case  where you are travelling from Spain into France and then to the uk you must review your driving schedule.

First of all you need to plan your route and you do not need any test until you try to get into France.details of require ments can be found here which state a PCR test and nothing else

.https://www.gouvernement.fr/en/coronavirus-covid-19 and During your stay in France, download and activate the #TousAntiCovid application.

A toll-free hotline service (French only) can answer your questions about the Coronavirus COVID-19 non-stop, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week: 0 800 130 000 (from abroad: +33 800 130 000, depending on your operator).

So you actually need to get a PCR test 72hours before crossing into France for each person over 11 years. I think then easiest way is to get that done before leaving and plan to cross the border within 72 hours. I think wit a PCR test it is 24 -48hours before you get the result. Pretty sure Vera does 24 hours. Some will be prepared to date  your test on then day of the result as against the date taken. Alternatively you will have to stop at a largish town near the French border and get a test done and if you get on the ferry within 72 hours   but you will not need another test to go to uk. and that can be an antigen test. ,

To be honest I think I would change my route home by getting a price for then Brittany ferries  Santander to Portsmouth route  which leaves on  Saturday at 15.00 hours and Wednesdays at 17.30 . the cost is about 375 euros for car and 2 passengers. Frankly I reckon you will save that by just needing 2 antigen tests say 100 as against 2 pcr and 2 antigen If they do them in France)at say 380 Euro. You will also save time as ferry is about 24 hours so in Portsmouth in 4 days . You sure will save  LOT IN PETROL TOO. and far less tiring.

HOPE THIS OF HELP Good luck Derek ( dellfrog}

Thank you Delfrog your advice is very much appreciated. If I can get the Covid Test in this area it gives us 76 to cross over to England.  Which we can do.  My daughter lives in France and says you need the Covid Test to cross the Border this is then O>K> for England and when back home you are sent two tests to your address whilst in quarantine.  Also I have been told the 72 hours start from when you get the result not when you take it.  Yorhshire Barbara

hi Not sure you are right re  going to France. The French rules appear to say you need a PCR COVID test to enter France not an antigen one. If you think you can get from here to Calais in 72 hours you are right you will not need another test. However The farmacia here said that the 72 hours has to be in the 3  days before boarding and they the rules say test is deemed when sample taken not the result. Anyway the worst that can happen is that you have to get antigen test in France ( as long as available without a prescription) Hope all works out for you Good luck safe journey Derek
