Bit of a family debate going on.

Almeeeria or Almaria . Which is correct way to pronounce Almeria. I know there is not an Small ‘a’ in the word but that’s how it’s sometimes sounds, Thanks.

Hi

I don't know how the locals in the province pronounce it but my Spanish friends in other parts of Spain pronounce it as  "ahl - meh - ree ah"  with the stress on the "ree"

It will be interesting to find out whether others in the area have a different pronunciation

P.S. I have see the word written as Almería and Almeria. The pronunciation that I have given is based on the first word Almería.

regards

Richard

The letter that has the accent above it is accentuated, therefore 'Almer ee a'.

I’ve heard it pronounced Al maria & Al meeeria. Personally I use Al Maria but each to their own lol

Hi Doris

Just for information. If in future you want to know how to pronounce Spanish words then the following site is a pretty good source

https://www.spanishdict.com/translate/almer%C3%ADa

Just click on the audio icon to the right of your chosen Spanish word in black type, which in this case is Almería and listen to the pronunciation. Normally when you click on the icon you are given a choice of either the Spanish or Latin American pronunciation, where there is a difference between the two.

It also provides a written phonetic  pronunciation of the word.

Hope this helps

Richard
