I would like to apologise for my post yesterday regarding the Ballymurphy killings. I was wrong to state that all Paras were cowards, clearly that was wrong and I apologise unreservedly for any offence. What was done in Ballymurphy and in Derry was done by the same Btn of Paras. I do believe that these actions sewed the seeds of hatred towards the soldiers who went on to serve in NI. I saw this morning soldiers condemning the actions of these soldiers that carried out this shooting and the head of the British army also stated what was done was shameful.

Once again I am sorry if I offended anyone I know many ex soldiers that was in the British army and they are decent guys. To the person who quoted the IRA. Very few Irish people support the actions of what they did. The bombing campaign was totally wrong and killed many innocent people. Those shot in Ballymurphy was not anything to do with the IRA indeed one of the victims family was shot by the IRA.

Fair play to you Keith, you have my admiration for the admission of mistake on your recent statement in a very sensitive subject such as what happened on the Ballymurphy estate in the 70's.     From the son of Irish parents,  born in Manchester, served 23 years as a British soldier and now living in Rep of Ireland.  I'm accepted in my village,  with my background for who I am as a person, just as I accept my neighbours for having different beliefs to mine on certain subjects.

I believe true progress will only be made in the North once us 'old stubborn bums' are long dead and gone and the 'younger non blaming folk' are in charge and steering the peace boat... who knows?  Until then, the hatred and finger pointing in Ulster will continue, only time will heal that mess.

I do know however that it's too damned cold and wet here and I'm biting at the bit to get out there to Spain.

keith I understand that the majority of Irish people did not agree with the IRA actions then and now I was just pointing out that the justice system should work both ways if it is to be pursued.  Peace in Ireland will be a wonderful thing, I would like to visit but my husband served two terms in the troubles and he will never go there again.

Hi Trish,  living just down the road, Ballyhaunis.  My dad came from Ballyglass, just outside Claremorris, mother from Balla, up towards Castlebar.  Was always headed back this way since leaving the Army for a few years to find my roots and meet up with relatives.  It's certainly a small place is Ireland and there's always somebody around who knows a relative...... And your Irish roots are??
