Hi,I'm looking at moving to Almeria from Estartit [Girona Province] and have seen a rental property which matches my budget and requirements in Palomares.

I know nothing of the area and facilities - I have Spanish residency,NIE and Medical card - any advice or tips about the area will be gratefully received.

I don't drive and rely upon cycling or walking to get around - use of public transport is a third option.

A small village with public square at its centre. Banks, small local friendly supermarkets. Several local bars for coffee and beers. The best steak house in the area  la Dulce Casa and English bar Oasis are in village. Pharmacy and medical centre locally. Very friendly people with a mix of spanish and ex pats. Local market on a Wednesday. Local beach about 10 minutes on a bike. Nearest large supermarket Consum about 15 minute away. Every Amenity you need are all in walking distance. Lovely Spanish feel and very nice community. There’s a mix of brits, Dutch, German folks but still has its Spanish feel. You will love Palomares. I think there’s a bus twice a day. Enjoy. Beware of the huge temperature difference to Girona especially in the summer when it can be high 30s and has been known to hit 40c.

We have had an holiday appartment in centreof village since 2003 having previosly stayed in Villaricos since 1986 for holidays. THere were very few expats when bought ours and although there are more now it is still a very spanish village. THe Dulce Casa belongs to friends and is actually the only English place we use. Otherwise we use the spanish bars in the square for ealy mornig coffees and taapas in daytime. WE are not late drinkers and altough we are in village centre it is generally quiet by late evening. Good local beach which is quiet, sandy but quite a strong cross current so be careful.Nearly everything you need within walking distance but ideally need a car as public transport poor. Consum, local supemarket about 10 mins on Bike. Good village market on wednesdays and Villaricos market on Sundays.

We love the village because it is not touristy and looked around locally before we bought. No regrets and would still coose Palomares although a bit like marmite, love it or hate it. WE love it , its our second home.

This post that was quoted has been deleted.

It’s a pity Billy Smart hasn’t found his missing clown! You must be the only person Biggles172 in Palomares that wears a hard hat because of the woodpeckers in the village! everybody in the village has seen and experienced your outrageous behaviour and that’s why NOBODY will associate with you! You are a human disgrace. You can slate the village as much as you like BUT all potential residents need to do is ask who “Mustang man “ is and they will be enlightened in full. PLEASE let me know how your law suit goes, if not already you will be laughed out of court! Your continual slagging off of this lovely village will do nothing to deter potential residents once they’ve experienced the warmth and friendliness of our little piece of paradise!! People have and will continue to see right through your spiteful rants all over this forum. No wonder your wife lives away from you, she obviously is the one with a brain.

Footnote to potential visitors.

Please ignore the hatred and untruths this man Biggles172 has posted on this forum, as more than one person has commented previously, Biggles has a dislike for the normal people in the village who socialise without disgracing themselves, without being barred from the bars in the village for loutish behaviour, who offer their time, help and advice freely. He’s not worth the time I spend reacting to his comments but sadly I cannot stand by and watch him attempt to destroy the reputation of our lovely village and it’s inhabitants. He’s recently had a post removed where in he was glad wishing people dead. The man is pondlife! Avoid HIM like the plaque, not the village. Please visit and see the lovely welcome you get. Good luck with your house hunting folks.

We bought in Palomares 3 years ago and I moved permanently last year. I can honestly say everyone I have met has been helpful and friendly and I feel very much at home and love living here. I read posts from Biggles before moving here and thank goodness I ignored his comments!  If you can, come and spend some time here before committing. It’s not for everybody but you might just love it as much as me! Good luck. 😊
