In the papers today is this article: https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.thelocal.es/20190301/spain-guarantees-residency-for-400000-brits-even-with-hard-brexit/amp

It appears that Spain has today issued a Royal Decree that another post by Chrisso50 went into in depth.  The rights of Britons living in Spain will be guaranteed.

Un saludo, Darío

Hi Dario,

My reading was that this covers those of us that are Resident here legally????

Having said that it is very reassuring and underscores the perception that we are needed for the Economy.

Just wonder how this edict will be construed at local level though.

Time will tell.

Saludos,

Bob and Sandra

Morning Bob - YES - my understanding as well is that this decree covers those of us with Residencia.  As you say, it is comforting to know we are catered for.

It makes sense - the article says 400.000 Britons, other estimates have said 300.000, so somewhere in the middle is accurate I guess.  That’s a lot of people and a lot of income that Spain wouldn’t want to lose - and being quite frank, a lot of people the UK wouldn’t want to suddenly return seeking jobs, claiming unemployment and utilizing the NHS ...

I still cross fingers for a second referendum, which has gone from “never going to happen” to now “possible”
