Oh my, you sure are one sour puss today Dario.

You must be the life and soul at party time.

Enjoy your festive season

My ...beliefs.... suggest adherence to the three-fold law, and so at this Christmas time, I truly wish you and your family a very merry Christmas, and a safe, happy and prosperous New Year

This is why you should never give the British public the vote in the first place,

Now they have Boris at the helm as well,

Hell no, heaven forbid we should allow the great unwashed a democratic vote.  Would be so much easier had the U.K. a North Korean or Chinese political system.

You’ve got Boris Johnson; give it time you’ll have a dictatorship

Ah welcome back Mario Dario, I do not live in the U.K. so do not have Boris Johnson as you assert.

I thought this thread had been taken down, missed our little chats for a while.

No Andy, you’re in Spain .... and here as of yesterday we now have a WONDERFUL SOCIALIST government, with a vote in favour of the investiture of Pedro Sanchez as Presidente del gobierno de España.... and not just Socialist - a coalition with ultra Left Wing Podemos Unidas .... you DO know the words to “Keep the red flag flying” don’t you? :-D

I must admit that the irony is not lost on me, in that all the Spanish resident Brexiteers who hailed a right wing government in the UK now find themselves in a country with a Socialist government that will make Corbyn seem centrist by comparison :-D ... you now get to experience the raw beauty of true Socialism.  Trump must be choking on his baby bottle as well at the thought of having to congratulate the Sanchez / Iglesias coalition.

Thankfully t’was not this topic that got taken down - whilst we get heated here, trade barbs and cross verbal swords (even if yours are a somewhat feeble plastic), we do not devolve into loutish swearing or threats against the person as that other thread did.

The UK is formally leaving the EU at midnight Spanish time. The EU is losing a valuable participant on all things European. I wish every UK citizen both in the UK and abroad only the best.

Perhaps this thread could be renamed (or at least regarded as, irrespective of name) “Petition to Rejoin the EU”

Hi Dario, I reckon the slight majority of people in the UK who supported Remain haven't the stomach to fight for rejoining the EU at the moment. I believe the Rejoin people will fight, but it will take a few years.

1. The formality cessation of EU membership begins at 11.00pm UK time (I undersand there will be bugle blowing and a few speeches and an address to the nation from Mr Johnson).

2. The true negotiations of Brexit will start shortly and this is where the real arguments will take place.

3. I understand negotiations may not be completed by the end of 2020. If so they will continue into 2021.

4. Scotland is waiting almost centre stage and Mr Johnson will eventually have to approve another referendum there which will see a split from the UK.

5. The Welsh nationalists are waiting in the wings.

6. I can't predict what will happen in Northern Ireland.

7. The people of the UK (well England and probably Wales) will eventually be on their own. The deals with Commonwealth countries will come into play which will only be foreplay as the UK must deal with the EU it's nearest neighbour. If you can't agree a shared fence with your next door neighbour, you certainly are not going to negotiate the same fence with somebody else living in another housing estate.

We are doomed, we are all doomed.

Lighten up Mathew or at least let us all share your crystal ball.

Have a good weekend

Andy
