i dont know the answer to this , all i know is that you would need to follow the rules of the max 90 days visit, using what ever licence you may require for that, i would look into renting a Spanish car on each visit and use the correct licence be it an international certificate that you may require , i think that is what you will need to do , but leaving a car un used for 90  days at a time may be a problem that you wouldnt need

Yes, as you are non-residents, you can drive with your UK licences.  The Spanish government has not stipulated that IDPs are mandatory, however anecdotal evidence suggests Guardia Civil / Policia Local in some areas are asking for an International Driving Permit.

Look around as well, as some garages are requesting a Padrón as well as an NIE (you will need to obtain an NIE to purchase a car here).  As a non-resident you are NOT entitled to go on the Padrón.  A lawyer has warned that Empadronimiento is for residents only and any non-resident who goes on the Padrón could find themselves liable for a large amount of back-tax.

Here’s the post I put up regarding this:

I found this advice from a firm of solicitors here (CTR Solicitors - Carmen Torrecillas R) on another forum and wanted to share the advice they are giving:-

“Non-Residents shouldn't be on the padrón.  Being on the padrón is proof you are a resident.  That means tax resident too so you may be asked to do a tax return and pay back tax.”

i agree they should not be on the padron because as you say it means that the stay here full time and the local council get paid from the Goverment for anyone who has a padron
