Our 90 days conclude at the end of the month (we’ll be back) so I’m starting to think about what to take back to UK.  To be honest, though, I haven’t really got to grips with good shopping in Mojacar, Garrucha and Vera so I would really appreciate any local advice.

I want to stock up with good olive oil, good olives, good balsamic vinegar.  Any suggestions for a good shop and/or any brands you might recommend.

Where do I buy local herbs and spices? I want some smoked paprika but what else should I get here?

I need a dish for cooking paella.

I want to buy a friend some Port.  Sadly I’m not going to Portugal so wonder if there is a good brand selling in Spain and where could I buy it?

Is there a good pottery outlet in the area.  I also like buying tiles

My list is actually pretty endless but I think these requests are enough for the time being. Thank you for any suggestions you might have

Best wishes

June

Just across from the bars on the “waterfront “ in Arboleas, you will find a shop called Herbs and Spices. Lots of choice plus there are other stockists in the shop such as home-wear and leather goods.

As you go into Albox on the left there is the “pot shop” good selection of all things ceramic.

Happy shopping

Try the Chinese shop up from the waterpark before you get to the Ya Ho restaurant for your paella 🥘  dish. Meradona sell paprika.

The cash and carry in Garrucha, near mercadona, has a really good selection of wines, sherries and I’m sure that they also have port.

There are also a couple of gourmet shops on Calle mayor which will sell decent quality oil although you can get decent quality in the supermarkets.

good luck

if you want pottery and tiles then Nijar is a wonderful place with lots of shops selling some pretty nice stuff very Spanish.  visit the cactus gardens on the way in and the butterfly farm.

This post that was quoted has been deleted.

They also have a good selection of cheeses in an indoor, air conditioned room.

If you can’t find any port there try the wine shop in hotel Tikar, Sean-is very knowledgeable and helpful.
