Good day to everyone,

I have a question regarding electricity suppliers and hope someone can help.

We have just bought an apartment in the Vera Playa area and have received our first electric bill for 82.52€ which came as of shock as we have, so far, only been there on weekends from Thursday nights to Sunday mornings.  Now granted we have been running the AC all night 9PM to 7:30 AM on the nights we are there so I expected a big bill but not that high.

When I went through the bill, I saw this charge –

Coste tope del gas RDL 10/2022 185.4 kWh - Precio: 0.163293 30,27 €

I quired the charge with GANA ENERGÍA and was directed to the below site. Which explains it very well.

https://ganaenergia.com/blog/tope-gas-factura-luz/

’To try to reduce the impact of the war on the price of electricity, the Government proposed to Europe the creation of the "Iberian exception" that would allow Spain to establish a mechanism to limit the price of natural gas used to generate electricity, and thus reduce the price of electricity in the wholesale market.

RDL 10/2022 made it possible to limit this price and regulated the adjustment of the gas cap on the electricity bill. This new cost of a variable nature seeks to compensate gas and coal plants for the difference between the price they sell gas to generate electricity and its real cost.’’

If I am reading it correctly this charge is paid by all electricity users. What I do not understand is that we also have a cave house on the Altiplano of Granada and use Iberdrola for our electricity supply and have not been charged this, YET. Our bills up here average 35€ per month.

My questions are;

Is everybody paying this?

Do you use a different, cheaper, supplier?

Would it be worth installing solar panels just to use AC?

our bill for a 3 bed flat in mojacar all electric using air con from 5pm to 10pm daily was €102.35  thAt is with Endesa on their Tempo Happy rate which gives you a reduction on the cost of the electric when you use it the most.  Nothing on our bill that resembles this charge but it was something that we paid before when we used a different supplier.  Might be worth going into the offices for Endesa on the road from the roundabout near Iceland for a quote

Hi Alicia

Thank you for your reply.

102.35€ Janey Mack that's allot. Is this for a full month?

I guess AC really sucks it up. As I said we regularly pay around 35€ per month. I was just 😲 when I saw the bill. I look at the Endesa site and set what's on offer.

To say their up but the Iceland? In Vera next to the China Bazar?

The charge you have quoted applies to all bills.   Friends of ours were adamant that they weren't paying it but when you looked closely at the small print there it was!  We have endesa and ours is three phases over the day with the cheapest rate from midnight to 8am, as well as that every weekend  and every red day is charged at the lowest rate.  I do all my baking and washing at weekends.   Suits our needs but not for everyone.

What may be of interest is microwave uses minimal leccy compared to your oven, the same for air dryers.  Currently considering purchasing a ninja dual hairdryer.  Friends in the UK have them and are saying that they haven't used their ovens since buying them.

I’m on Iberdrola and no, I don’t get charged that.  My last bill was 82€ as well, BUT that’s two people living full time, running aircon, fans, washing machine etc etc.

I am led to believe that some suppliers are showing the adjustment as a separate item and others are simply adjusting the price per kw/h. I’m with chc and they are showing it separately.

CHC are definitely more expensive as well. My neighbor is with CHC, single person - for same period we paid 82€, she paid 256€ with CHC.

I believe Iberdrola is the main supplier and all others purchase from Iberdrola and therefore put their own cut on top when they retail it.

Your quite right Dario, Iberdrola is the main contractor and all other companies buy their electricity from them and pass it on, hence the high prices. Better to go with the main man.

The extra charges stating "Coste tope del gas RDL 10/2022" is not depending to the electricity company, but state law. This is paid by everyone that has a new, or renewed contract after april 2022, or that has a contract with the regulated energy price. Everyone with a fixed price contract, doesn't pay, until your contract will be renewed.

Not only Iberdrola is main supplier, also Endesa is. There are webpages that compare all different energy companies, but in the end the differences don't pass 10€ a month. More important is to compare your personal needs and find the best contract type for you.
