True, most town halls have free lessons, run by Spanish educated teachers, who cannot help themselves but to teach the way they were taught, from age 5. That is fine if you are at school until you are 17, speaking Spanish all day, at home and school. But for older Expats, who have not got that time the failure rate is very very high.

What expats need is specific English as a second language courses, which teach the structure of the language, with only a few tenses, keeping it really simple.

www.jamesspanishschool.com does that online, I did their course and it cuts to the chase, only teaching you the every day stuff, you need.Check out their facebook page James Spanish School

Hi

Paco Guerrero Galera. ( can find him on Facebook) Spanish teacher, does private lessons.  Also on a Wednesday he does classes, beginner class is at 11.30. 7.00 euro per lesson.  You can just turn up. He is in the building next to Mercadona in Mojacar. Hope this is helpful.

There are Spanish Lession the building next to the Mercadona in Mojacar on Wednesday's. Beginners at 11.30. Pablo also does private lessons.

When I come over I will need sympathetic teaching as having tried to learn at home on my own I know less Spanish now than two years ago. It needs someone to work with.

Yes both my husband and I started one of the town hall classes...... the grammer did our heads in! Children learn to talk before they can write.... so all you need is the spoken word....(which is still hard enough when there are 5 ways of saying 'you'!)
