Moving from US to Vera Playa

Hi Deirdre and welcome - I know only a little of the process for third country Nationals, so your description of what you have to do and how you have to do it will be of great interest to all those planning to move from UK after 31/12/20 when the transition period ends and UK becomes a third country.

You will be coming in under the general immigration regime then (TIE) and I believe your visa is valid for a year, after which you will renew and get another two years.  A further renewal after two years will get you another two years; after you have then completed 5 years here in this fashion, you can apply for permanent residency.  You will be required to supply proof of income (or possibly savings of a certain amount) to cover the entire period of visa renewals, i.e. 5 years.

I take it you have someone assisting you with the migration process?  If not, unless you speak good Spanish and are conversant with the bureaucracy of Spain, I’d recommend you find someone well versed in migration to assist with the process.  Spain loves bureaucracy the same way the Pope loves Catholicism ... they are inextricably intertwined!  

Thank you so much! We are taking Spanish classes now but it sounds like we need to get someone local who is fluent. Do you have any names/suggestions?? We have all the forms for the US retiree visa. What is the process for getting the national health insurance? We have to have proof of private insurance to get our visa and that will cover us for a year. It seems each region has a different and specific application process to get the national health care?? Is there a guide available? When I try to get info, all I get is that each region/area has their own steps and requirements! Sorry to ask so much but it is a great relief to find a source specific to Vera Playa!!!! I would recommend Mundi Abogados at Las Buganvillas, Vera Playa.  I have absolutely no affiliation to them, but they have proved themselves time and time again.  They deal with Extranjeria on a daily basis and will know all the ins and outs of your particular visa class.

With EU nationals, they can provide a form that effectively transfers their entitlement to Spain and that puts them on the Spanish health system (which is excellent, by the way!!)

WOW!! Thank you so much for all this wonderful info! We visited Vera Playa last year and are so eager to move there. Our condo in the US is currently on the market...may take a bit with the pandemic but people are buying real estate!! Looking forward to meeting and thanking you in person!

Well we live at Valle del Este, just outside Vera Pueblo, but have a shop in the centre of Vera.  All your administration, Padrón, car tax etc will be taken care of by Vera Ayuntamiento which is in Vera Pueblo, around 7km ir so from Vera Playa.  I’d love to see you when you get here
