I have a question regarding the renewal of my T. I. E card. Please, only those with first hand experience need reply. No guesses or supposition please. I know the basic process having done it some years ago when we got our temporary 5 year cards. My question is, do we have to produce bank statements and all the other documentation that was initially required or is it just a matter of changing the cards and information at the places in Almeria (I believe I have to go twice) I also know of the long waiting times that is why I am asking now with nearly 2 years till our cards expire. Thank you.

You do not need to prove finance on renewal at the 5 year point as you are automatically permanent resident.

It will be the same as those changing from green card to TIE - proof of ID, a padrón less than 3 months old, the all important payment of fees on the modelo 7… (can’t remember the number and always get it wrong…) and that will be it.

And it will be at the expiry date of the card rather than the five year point. This was from our highly trusted abogados (Mundiabagados at los Buganvillas).

Thank you - yes, I neglected to add that.  After renewals for years 2 & 3, then years 4 & 5, you only need renew your TIE on the expiry date of the card, not at the 5 year point.
