Does anyone know the rules for smoking outside restaurants and bars? We sat undercover at a restaurant and their were people smoking next to us,very unpleasant.

They differ from place to place and there as of yet no law or hard and fast rules against it, I believe, if it is outside covered or not.
If there ashtrays on the tables sit elsewhere but this is no guarantee when I asked
¿puedo tener un cenicero por favor?
Usa el suelo
As an occasional smoker I am aware that it is unpleasant when eating but if you see someone smoking before you sit down please do not sit down and tell them to stop smoking as has happened to me a few times.
In restaurants only I will not smoke but it it is a bar/restaurant where I like to have a drink I will usually find a table away from others,if possible and make a point of smoking. This way people can see that I am smoking before they sit down but not everyone is like me and will light up neighboring tables be dammed.
There are possibly places that ban it out right perhaps other members know them and can post replies letting you know where they are.

9 times out of 10, if you're outside on a terrace be prepared for someone to smoke next to you. It's what it is and until they bring in tighter controls, it will happen. I find that most smokers don't give a damn about smoking next to you even if you're eating. I will always look for a non smoking area if it's available or simply not bother using a terrace full of smokers.
The sooner smoking is banned in any public areas, the better.

Typical selfish reply from a smoker. It’s your addiction to a foul smelling, disease causing narcotic that should not be inflicted on anyone but yourself. If you want to smoke, then that’s your funeral, but don’t subject me to your foul habit and only smoke inside your own home.

It's their addiction their choice.
You have not got the right to tell me how to treat my body, unless your my GP.
Do you drink alcohol?
Smoke weed now or when you were younger?. Smoke cigs either?
Yes I know what tobacco products do to me it's my choice selfish or not. Vote with your feet smoking allowed in an establishment go elsewhere and tell them why your not staying. Enough people do that and you may start a movement.
Until the laws are changed smokers will smoke where they can.
The louder you shout the more stubborn they are likely to become.

You are arguing my point. I have no feelings one way or the other if someone smokes, that is entirely up to them. I'm not trying to tell them to quit smoking.
What I do object too is that someone smoking directly affects the people around them, The effects of passive smoking, the smell, the smoke, how it affects my dining experience.
I don't and never have smoked weed.
I do drink alcohol, but me having a drink has no affect whatsoever on the person on the next table, there's no foul smell, no smoke billowing in their face. The only result of me smoking is the need to pee more often. Now if I got up and peed on your clothes, then you'd have a genuine grudge, as I do with being enveloped in a foul smelling cloud of smoke that permeates my clothing and skin.
I would never insist you give up smoking. I'd agree with all the medical research that points out how bad it is for you, but what you do with your body is your choice.
I agree that smokers will indeed smoke anywhere they can, that is selfishness and a symptom to their addiction.
Have a peachy smoke filled day.
