Family enjoyed Christmas dinner on our pool patio Christmas day, lovely weather and in the 20's deffo, we live inland around 45 minutes from the coast in a small village called Urcal, partners place, since moving in she had a fly free enclosure built over the pool and patio, netted we still get tanned !! Come on down as the saying goes, rent if you feel like it, it does make sense and if you shop around find a villa with a private pool, €500 a month should get you one, €500 per month, x 12 mths = €6000, x 10 years = €60,000, where are you gonna get a place like that in the uk, or Spain for that matter, economics make it a no brainer, enjoy !!

Ferry ??, you bringing youre stuff in youre car or just bringing youre car ??, we did just that last March 2017, by the time we got off the ferry from portsmouth to Bilbao it was mid afternoon, we'd pre booked an apartment in Madrid, just as well we did as it was dark when we got there.

From Madrid to here took another 4.5 hrs but the weather went wetter and worse the further south we got, some loony tunes overtook us doing crazy mph/ kms per hour and just ten minutes further down the motovia he/she/they and their car were in bits and pieces scattered across the motovia !!

Doing the trip down again with my next car I'd drive all the way and just break the journey with one hotel stop, the 26 hrs on the ferry you can drive a heck of a ways from the UK to Spain.

Hi everyone

I'm new to the forum, I have just bought an apartment in vera player, about 20 min walk from consume supermarket. I will be spending Christmas here. Can anyone recommend bars and restaurants that will be open ion or around Christmas day.

I will be hiring a car for the first time so willing to travel, or though very scared of roundabouts 😂 😂. And driving the wrong way. Aaaarrrgghhh!!!

Also looking to buy paint, furniture, quilts etc..

Any advise, much appreciated

Hi Angela

I know that the Ya Ho restaurant at the Puerto Rey roundabout is definitely open on Christmas day and I'm sure I heard on the radio that Bar la Reva is doing a Christmas day lunch carvery. Frankie's bar is also usually open in the morning / lunch time for drinks. Come boxing day everything back to normal as it is not a holiday here, although English owned bars will probably be closed.

There is a very good paint shop at Bougainville and the man is very helpful.

Quilts etc can be bought on the markets Garrucha Friday, Vera Saturday and Villaricos Sunday. Also there are a few furniture shops on the Industrial site at Antas and there are 3 on the road from Garrucha to Vera. Also worth a look and considerably cheaper is Embargoes on the Antas industrial estate.  This is a shop where what you see is what you get and they always seem to have a lot of sofas especially. Safe trip and enjoy, I love living here on Vera Playa.

Regards

Hi

Thankyou so much, that's everything I need. Big shopping trip ahead, yay...

Just the fear of driving to go...

I have bought it as a holiday home for now, but will eventually be my retirement home.

In all seriousness, to misquote Blue Oyster Cult - Don’t fear the roundabouts :-D

I’m serious when I observe that by and large indication of a turn is ..... optional .... seemingly, but I have found the Spanish to be much more courteous on the roads and with no “road-rage” - I attribute this to a very very good road network and sensible speed limits.

There ARE Speed limits here - 120 km/h on motorways / highways; 90 km/h on open / A roads; 50 km/h (or as otherwise signposted) around town.

Don’t be surprised to be on the highway at 120 - 130 km/h and have a car come past you like a bat out of hell!

The police are very obliging and seem to focus more on advertising their presence - at night you’ll recognize the police cars because they drive with their blue lights on - not flashing, just a steady on..... you can see them from kilometres away :-D

Un saludo, Darío

This post that was quoted has been deleted.

It’s driving law that you stick to speed limits as well .... hands up everyone who does .....? **crickets chirping**
