Hi all,

We are getting a bit frustrated with the Health Insurance companies.

My Mrs. who is a lot younger than me has had a fair bit of abdominal surgery due to a condition from years ago. Not critical illness but now has to manage the pain. I have no pre-existing conditions. Asssa have point-blank refused to insure her and others are quoting ridiculous amounts of money, more for me than her. I thought most of these companies excluded pre-existing conditions so why the knock back?

We are both under state pension age and are looking at Health Insurance in order to obtain our Residencia. I understand that having had Resdiencia for 12 months then you can pay into the Spanish system, is that still correct?

I'm sure there must be thousands of ex-pats with far more serious pre-existing conditions who have managed to obtain private healthcare.

Any advice on our situation would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance

Tony and Sam

Do you have a Spanish bank account, If not, try discussing this with Sabadell. Mojacar Playa. A friend went there today to discuss the same subject and came away very pleased.

Good luck,

David

You don’t need Residencia to pay into Spanish health system.  My wife started a business and paid Autónomo prior to obtaining Residencia and that qualified me to obtain a Tarjeta Sanitaria as well.  On the back of having that, we both got Residencia.

I am given to understand that you must either be employed (even part time) or have your own business to allow payment of Autónomo but I am not wholly certain of that.

Saludos, Darío

Thanks Dario,

We aren't working, I am in receipt of a UK private pension. Don't have any plans to find work out here just at the minute but never say never.

Cheers, Tony

Thanks David,

We don't have a Spanish bank account but will be soon as we are in the process of buying a property.

Is there a package that Sabadell do combining Health Insurance do you know?

Cheers, Tony

Hi Tony & Sam.

You will need a Spanish bank account anyway. I moved to Sabadell to get free banking. Very happy. For health cover I pay Sanitas over €1500 a year. But that's about half what I paid in Germany for less benefits.

Hi Tony & Sam

I work for Collyfer Funeral Directors but am also able to quote to the English Communities via Allianz Seguros... if you message me your dates of birth and just a brief outline on what was the op Sam had, then ill try get you a quotation for basic insurance, enough to get you your residency at least.
