Hi everyone, I’m new to the forum & seeking your thoughts & wisdom please.

My wife and I are looking to purchase somewhere in Spain in the next couple of years.

Our research has been ongoing for a couple of years, in addition to years of holidays in Spain.

We’re at the point where we’ve ruled out Costa Blanca and Costa Del Sol, largely because we feel they’re too over commercialised/English for us.

We love visiting lots of bars & restaurants, however the razzmatazz of the aforementioned locations are generally too much. McDonald’s/English bars are not really what we’re looking for.

As this will be part holiday home, part rental, we’re going to need something that is rentable, particularly in the high season. We’re happy to use it in the low season, but will require some life, with bars/restaurant remaining open etc.

Our search has now taken us to Almeria area and it seems to be more to our taste.

What area would you recommend for us????

So to summarise;

* nice pleasant area, busy, with plenty of bars/restaurant…..but not a little England

*stays open all year

*good rental potential

Any advice will be gratefully received

Many thanks

Scott 😎

Almeria sounds a good bet. Definately try Mojacar if it is an apartment you are looking for as property prices are far more reasonable than the Costa areas. We would buy there if we didn't need the outside garden space for our dogs.

We are currently buying in a typical rural Spanish village 25 mins from Mojacar but  also within 10 minutes of local towns.... not a lot there I must say so the price reflects this, but near enough to Mojacar and other places. You get more for your money in the villages a little inland but research areas inland as some areas are more prone to flies with heavy farming and animals. Don't get me wrong, I love many  tourist holiday areas including Marbella, Peurto Banus etc etc but wanted a more " second home feel" rather than the touristy vibe due to long stretches with our dogs over winter months and we didn't want to risk too much money in Spain. You would have no problems renting out Mojacar in peak seasons for sure as busy with a buzz (but  too hot for us then) and we are happy with their quiet season as not totally closed down. As we don't want this hassle we have kept our budget in check to allow this to be only our holiday home. Renting out is not always as easy as you think  especially in terms of reliable cleaners and my friend has more costs due to Brexit.

Hi….thank you very much for taking the time to reply. We haven’t ruled out buying inland and I can certainly see the advantage of not having to rely on rent 😊
